Park Psychotherapy & Counselling

Jo Mitchell - Park PsychotherapyWelcome! My name is Jo Mitchell. I run my psychotherapy and counselling practice, Park Psychotherapy, near to Clarence Park in St Albans, Hertfordshire.

I aim to provide a safe space where issues can be explored in a completely confidential setting and where each person's uniqueness is respected.

I have over 13 years experience working with many issues, including anxiety, depression and adults dealing with the impact of childhood trauma. Childhood trauma can result when a child experiences an overwhelming or frightening event without the opportunity to adequately process and repair the experience after the event is over. The impact continues to influence the person in adulthood.

My approach is Integrative. I use a variety of approaches to suit each client, including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Mindfulness, Psychodynamic, Gestalt, Jungian, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dream work. My approach is also Transpersonal, which acknowledges the body's natural healing ability and the spiritual dimension. It includes working with the body using visualisation and grounding techniques.

I also use some of the new approaches which have been developed as a result of the relatively recent advances in brain science, in particular the finding that the human brain can grow and change throughout our lifetime. This means we have the potential to change old, ingrained patterns which do not serve us, into more adaptive and helpful ones. These approaches include Mindfulness and Lifespan Integration. Please see my Approaches page for more information.

I am a registered psychotherapist with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and adhere to their code of ethics and practice. I am listed on the UKCP's register of therapists, which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Please contact me by e-mail  or by telephone 07949 784130 with your queries or to arrange an initial appointment.

"Healing may not be so much about getting better,
as about letting go of everything that isn't you -
all of the expectations, all of the beliefs -
and becoming who you are." Rachel Naomi Remen
